Pick the grade that matches your product
Grade is the single most important buying decision — it defines what the tote has held, what it can safely hold next, and what it costs. Five options cover almost every need.

275 vs 330 gallon
Both standard totes sit on the same 40" × 48" GMA footprint, so they palletize and rack identically. The difference is bottle height and gross weight. The 275 stands about 46" tall and weighs roughly 2,400 lbs full of water; the 330 stands about 53" tall and weighs roughly 2,900 lbs full — buying you 20% more product per pallet position on the same floor space.
Choose the 275 when overhead clearance, floor loading or a pallet weight limit is tight. Choose the 330 to maximize product per freight lane — just watch for weighing out the trailer before you cube it out with dense liquids. Full dimensions and freight math live in the size chart.
What to inspect before you accept a load
A five-minute walk-around saves you a returned truck.
1 · The bottle
Look for cracks, deep gouges, hazing, bulging or heavy discoloration in the HDPE. Surface scuffs are cosmetic; stress cracks and swelling are not. UV-chalked bottles have shortened life.
2 · Residue & odor
Check the interior for residue, staining or strong odor. Any trace of prior contents must be compatible with your product — see the compatibility chart.
3 · Valve & gasket
Open and close the discharge valve; confirm it seats without drips and the gasket is supple, not cracked or swollen. Replace worn seals from accessories.
4 · Cap & vent
Verify the fill cap threads cleanly and the seal is intact. Confirm whether you need a vented lid for off-gassing product.
5 · Cage & pallet
Inspect the steel cage for bent or broken tubes and the pallet (steel or composite) for cracks. A damaged cage compromises stacking and forklift handling.
6 · Markings & rating
For regulated product, confirm the UN rating, marking and manufacture date. Retest dates matter for hazmat service.
A used tote is only as safe as its paperwork.
The safe fill for any used tote is a product compatible with both HDPE and any residue of its prior contents. Insist on prior-contents documentation, confirm the wash and test history for reconditioned units, and check UN ratings and retest dates for regulated work. Cost and carbon, side by side
A new food-grade IBC carries the full cost of a virgin HDPE bottle — plus the energy and roughly 100+ lbs of new plastic embodied in making it. Reconditioned and rebottled totes deliver comparable function for most applications at a fraction of the price, while keeping steel and HDPE in service instead of the landfill.

About 40 full totes fill a 53' dry van (2-wide, 2-high); empties ship 60–80+ when nested. Buy by the truckload to cut per-unit freight.
Confirm dock vs ground drop, forklift availability and whether you need a liftgate. These decide the trailer and rate.
